I made dinner tonight for the first time in ages.
I can never tell what to make, because he doesn’t like a lot of food that I do. (But I like 99% of what he likes: I won’t touch celery!)
Mostly, I just can’t cook anything with a bunch of veggies, or plan on a barbecue with fresh sweet corn on the cob. (He’s a meat-and-potatoes-and-nothing-else kind of guy.)
Which means we are limited on our food choices and end up cycling the same recipes over and over again week after week.
That can be fine, but it’s not my cup of tea. I like variety sometimes.
So, I joined AllRecipes today and found a new recipe.
Well, new to us.
I’ve had goulash on a regular basis since I was a kid, minus the last four years. =D
It was an easy recipe, and good, too.
(And my picky eater ate it, and went back for seconds!)
Since my description has been so….forthcoming, I won’t post the recipe here. But I will include the link for it.
I did, however, make a few concessions. I used piccolini (small penne) instead of bowtie pasta, and we were out of stewed tomatoes, so I used diced and threw in a pinch each of rosemary and oregano, to help achieve the same basic flavor.
In fairness to Jacob, he does like things besides meat and potatoes, like pasta, french toast, celery (esp. with buffalo wings), and macaroni and cheese.
For the most part, though, he contentedly munches on steaks with baked potatoes (with no 3rd dish), hamburgers and fries (hold the garnish), chicken and rice (no salad, thank you) and buffalo wings with cheesy potatoes (…celery with ranch, please).
It’s just going to be interesting to see what happens when we have children:
"Jude, eat your green beans."
"But why, mommy? Daddy’s not eating his green beans…."
